An introduction to Japanese Taiko Drumming. Learn to play the big drums with Sonoma County Taiko. Taiko have been an integral part of traditional Japanese culture for as long as anyone can remember. Used to communicate with the spirits and deities as well as for long distance signaling. Taiko has become a dynamic visual performance art-form. Come experience the excitement and spirit of Japan.
About the Instructor: Arnold Shimizu is a fourth generation Japanese American who has been playing and teaching taiko since 1995. His experience includes training with San Francisco Taiko Dojo under Grand Master Seiichi Tanaka, Tiffany Tamaribuchi founder/Director of Sacramento Taiko Dan and workshops with performers and instructors for the U.S. and Japan. He is also a member of Ensohza Minyoushu, a traditional music and dance troupe.
