2018 WSU Wheat Academy
December 11 & 12: The Wheat Academy offers hands-on learning.
PULLMAN, Wash. Two days of comprehensive, hands-on learning await participants of the annual WSU Wheat Academy. Growers and industry professionals from all over the Pacific Northwest are invited to the WSU Pullman campus December 11 and 12 to learn about disease diagnostics, insect pest management, herbicide decisions, nutrient management, and much more directly from the experts during intensive, 90-minute sessions.
The Wheat Academy will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 11 and will be held in the teaching laboratories of the Vogel Plant Bioscience Building on the WSU Pullman campus. Registration is $75 for growers and $125 for industry representatives. Registration is limited to the first 75 registrants. The registration fee covers parking on campus, two lunches, a catered social hour, a tour of the $15 million Small Grains Plant Growth Facility, and light refreshments throughout the two-day event. During the Academy, participants will get to select eight sessions to attend out of the twelve available. There will be six sessions each day from which to choose. This year's sessions are:
-Diversifying the Wheat Portfolio of the PNW -Managing Soil Acidification; Soil pH & Wheat Diseases -Drones in Ag -Identifying and Managing Insect Pests on the Farm -How Tillage, No-till, and Surface Residue Influence Soil Water Storage -Greenhouse tour and Wheat Crossing -Pulse Crop Production -Plant Problem Diagnosis -Market Strategy Development -Nutrient Management in Wheat Cropping Systems -Herbicide Decisions in Integrated Weed Management Systems -Roots of the next Green Revolution: Balancing Soil Fertility & Crop Root Growth
Washington and Idaho Pesticide Recertification credits will be available. CCA CEU's will be available for all sessions.
