There Are Other Worlds
There Are Other Worlds is a performance piece that uses aerial arts, movement, prose and poetry to tell the story of Amri Akenyemi a mother, Black activist, struggling yogi and a woman serving fifteen years in a maximum security prison for a crime of politics and passion and her relationship with her youngest daughter, Dreamah. After a family tragedy disrupts an already strained and painful relationship, the two women struggle to find peace with themselves and each other. This piece will utilize the vertical landscape of aerial arts and the shapes and forms of black bodies to tell a tale that is both complicated and integrated to the fabric of our society, while experimenting with light and shadow, inhalation and exhalation, ritual and movement to illuminate on the journey of these women's souls.
