Harry Smith (1923-1991) and Jordan Belson (1926-2011) were legendary experimental filmmakers who met in Berkeley in the late 1940s, and together developed remarkable independent bodies of work in film, painting, and recorded sound. Influenced by hermeticism, alchemy and the occult, they were both devotees of Kandinsky's principles of Non-Objective painting and carried these interests into films. Both were pioneering figures in the development of light shows and psychedelic art.
Garth Hudson, a founding member of The Band, is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and has a Grammy Lifetime of Achievement Award. A few of his many albums, Music For Our Lady Queen of Angels, Begali Bauls at Big Pink, The Sea to the North, Live at the Wolf, and A Canadian Celebration of The Band. He continues to perform, record, and produce with artists including Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Van Morrison, Norah Jones, and many others. His wife, Sister Maud Hudson (NY Blues Hall of Fame), is a remarkable and versatile singer who has performed/recorded with The Band, Albert Collins, Paul Butterfield, Dr. John, Mary Margaret OHara, and others.
High Water is multi-instrumentalist Will Epstein (keyboards, alto and soprano sax, electronics and vocals) who has released numerous albums and EPs on the Other People label. He has composed soundtracks for feature films and shorts, as well as artist videos, and recently composed electronic music for live dance performances at the Met Breuer (Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York). He is a regular presence on the electronic dance music scene, and the New York jazz/improvisation scene.
