SDC Fire Recovery Walk
Join Sonoma Ecology Center staff to revisit the beautiful and fascinating lands on Sonoma Developmental Center, which burned in last years wildfires. We will observe the regrowth of oak woodland plants and learn how to interpret fire-affected landscapes. We will discuss: How have these wild places responded? What are the effects of fire on our local ecosystems? What have we learned about how to live with fire, one year later?
Sunday, September 30, 10am-12pm
Participants will meet at Sonoma Ecology Center's office in the Sonoma Developmental Center near Glen Ellen. Directions will be provided upon registration.
We will be walking approximately 2 miles over mostly flat terrain on a trail, however there a few short but steep inclines with loose rock and one fallen tree to step over. Please wear sturdy footwear, and bring trekking poles if you typically use them.
Please watch our events calendar as we will host more walks in various locations throughout Sonoma Valley! https://www.sonomaecologycenter.org/events/.
This series is supported by the Sonoma Valley Ecological Fire Relief Fund. Donations to this fund dedicated to fire education, active response, and prevention are gratefully accepted!
