"The Death Tour"
How were people in the 18th and 19th centuries buried? What were their main causes of death? How were they mourned by their loved ones?
On Friday evenings in September, consider these questions behind the gates of one of America's most historic graveyards. As they lead you through the grounds at 5th and Arch Street (and past the gravestones of five signers of the Declaration of Independence, including Benjamin Franklin), our tour guides will illuminate stories from the past in a meditation on how past burial practices can change the way we experience death and mourning today.
