Rutter Mass of the Children
The Choral Society of Durham Chamber Choir conducted by Rodney Wynkoop presents its 2019 concert featuring John Rutter's Mass of the Children. Of his inspiration, Rutter says, "The seed of the work probably lay in the inspiring experience I had back in 1963 singing as a member of the boys choir in the first recording of Benjamin Britten's War Requiem. The effect of combining children's and adults' voices is unique, and I wanted to write a work that would bring them together in a more joyful context than a Requiem." The performance will feature the CSD Chamber Choir, Raleigh Boychoir (conducted by Jeremy Tucker), soprano and baritone soloists, chamber orchestra and organ. This concert will also be performed on Sunday, April 7 at 5:30 pm at Duke University Chapel (see choral-society.org for more information).
