Priority Application, inspired by The Body Political:
Because we deeply value the voices of marginalized folx and recognize the systemic oppression that exists in our community, we are creating a priority application period for performers who identify as a members of under-represented groups. We see you, we love you, and we want your stories of punching up on our stage! From August 14th through August 24th, we ask that only this priority group apply. All applications received during this time will be considered first for the show. From August 24th until August 31st, applications will be open to everyone.

Intention:
As two, white, cis women in Boise, Idaho, we recognize we have been socialized to see the world from a particular perspective. In order to challenge our perspective, we strive to learn from, understand, and amplify the experiences and individual stories of others. The intention of this show is to create a safe space to share stories of punching up, to express dissent against the stronghold of the systemic oppressions each individual encounters, and by these stories gain an understanding of the larger world.

Diversity Statement:
We strive to have a cast that reflects our diverse nation and want to showcase a wide variety of stories. Folx of underrepresented backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply, including people of color, gender non-conforming and trans folx, people with disabilities, and performers over the age of 40. We hold 60% of our performance slots for priority applications.

Traveling Performers
If you are traveling performer, we can assist with lodging, some local transportation, and introductions to other producers in Boise. We cannot pay for travel costs to get to Boise, and we cannot guarantee you other bookings.

***Our Mission***
Theater is the vehicle in which to discuss difficult topics through story; burlesque theater enables the individual creator to be the writer, director, designer, and executioner of their own story. Our mission is to celebrate our constitutional right to freedom of expression by creating a safe space to perform stories that dismantle systemic oppression through the individual human experience.

***Values***
We value dissent, respect, diversity, communication, individuality, rebellion, and the first amendment.

***Beliefs***
We believe that at the root, people are good. We believe that everyone has their own backstory which shapes their views of the present.  We believe that personal stories are the key for creating empathy; through the story of an individuals personal history, understanding and empathy can be achieved. We believe that while media - social and otherwise - is a valuable tool, it can cause damage, depersonalize, and create rifts among allies. We believe that we will not always agree with each other, but that we can and MUST communicate to function as a community on all levels - neighborhood to global.

Extreme recognition of gratitude to The Body Political for their expended brain power in navigating challenging subjects and thoughtful assistance in clearly defining and creating the verbiage for this endeavor. To Tas A-Ghul, who initially inspired The Body Political's Priority Application Approach, and Jet Noir and Magnoliah Black who sit on the board of The Body Political and contributed the original diversity statement.
