SKYLIGHT BOOKS presents ANITA SARKEESIAN and EBONY ADAMS to discuss their new book HISTORY VS WOMEN with JANINA GAVANKAR at the BARNSDALL GALLERY THEATRE
Join us for a discussion of Anita Sarkeesian and Ebony Adams' new book, HISTORY VS WOMEN: THE DEFIANT LIVES THAT THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW, as moderated by Janina Gavankar.

PLEASE NOTE: This event will take place at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre at the Barnsdall Art Park located at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90027.

Each ticket comes with a signed copy of History Vs. Women. Tickets are $25 for a single General Admission ticket + one copy of the book ($22 for members) and $30 for two General Admission tickets + one copy of the book ($27 for members). Looking through the ages and across the globe, Anita Sarkeesian, founder of Feminist Frequency, along with Ebony Adams PhD, have reclaimed the stories of twenty-five remarkable women who dared to defy history and change the world around them. From Mongolian wrestlers to Chinese pirates, Native American ballerinas to Egyptian scientists, Japanese novelists to British prime ministers, History vs Women will reframe the history that you thought you knew.

With beautiful full-color illustrations of each woman and a bold graphic design, History vs Women takes readers around the world and across generations to women whose lives and accomplishments have impacted both their societies and our own.

Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning media critic and the creator and executive director of Feminist Frequency, an educational nonprofit that explores the representations of women in pop culture narratives.Best known as the creator and host of Feminist Frequencys highly influential series Tropes vs. Women in Video Games, Anita lectures at universities, conferences and game development studios around the world. Anita dreams of owning a life-size replica of Buffys scythe. She is the coauthor of History vs Women.

Ebony Adams, Ph.D. is an author, activist, and former college educator whose work foregrounds the lives and work of black women in the diaspora. She lives in Los Angeles with a steadily-increasing collection of Doctor Who memorabilia. She writes widely on film criticism, social justice, and pop culture, and is the coauthor of History vs Women.

Janina Gavankar is an American actress and musician. She is trained as a pianist, vocalist, and orchestral percussionist, and majored in Theatre Performance at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Gavankar best known for her roles in Blindspotting, Star Wars Battlefront II, HBOs True Blood, and FOXs supernatural drama Sleepy Hollow.
