Share this event:

Faces of the Guitar is the second annual celebration of guitar presented by the Portland Guitar Society. The three-act showcase features an eclectic mix of notable West Coast musicians who will transport the audience from the flamenco music of Spain to bossa nova from Brazil to classical guitar from around the globe.

Yuri Liberzon -- Classical guitarist
Brenna McDonald and Friends -- Flamenco guitar, dance and voice
Caminhos Cruzados Trio -- Jazz, Flamenco and Percussion

About the Performers:

Yuri Liberzon is an internationally acclaimed concert and recording artist. Russian-born and Israeli-raised, he was awarded full scholarships to study with two of the worlds leading guitar masters: Manuel Barrueco and Benjamin Verdery, and now maintains an active concert schedule.  Yuri has been recognized for his impressive technical ability and musicality and was granted Permanent Residency in the United States based on his achievements in music.

Brenna McDonald began studying flamenco dance and guitar in 1997 in Eugene, Oregon. She has lived and studied flamenco in Spain and is a founding member of La Peña Flamenca de Portland and Espacio Flamenco. She currently teaches flamenco dance and guitar at Espacio Flamenco and co-organizes the performance company Espacio Flamenco Onstage.

Caminhos Cruzados means "cross roads" or "paths crossed" in Portuguese and several disparate musical traditions do just that in this band. The trio features renowned jazz guitarist Dan Balmer, guitarist Nat Hulskamp, who has a background in Flamenco and Middle Eastern music, internationally respected master percussionist from Ghana, Israel Annoh, and special guest vocalist Lamiae Naki from Morocco.

Portland Guitar Society (PGS) is a nonprofit community organization that welcomes guitarists of all ages, all levels, and all styles. Over the years PGS has sponsored several hundred guitar concerts and events such as Portland State Universitys annual guitar festival. We've provided a venue for over 300 monthly meetings, which are free and open to the public, where guitar players perform for each other in an encouraging atmosphere. PGS, however, is most proud of its work on behalf of the next generation of guitar players by providing performance opportunities, workshops, master classes, financial assistance, and guitars on loan for deserving young students.

PGS preserves its open support for all styles of guitar music. PGS welcomes donations and membership support in sustaining and growing this vital part of Portlands music community. For more information, go to www.pdxguitarsociety.org
