Double Bill: Andrew Finn Magill with Alan Murray, and Rakish
This will be an amazing Double Bill: Andrew Finn the Fiddler Magill has straddled the line of fiddler and violinist for the better part of his thirty years. Raised in an Irish musical household in Asheville, North Carolina he grew up studying with many of the best traditional American and Irish fiddlers at The Swannanoa Gathering music workshops. At age 18 his debut record Drive & Lift was featured on NPR and ten years later, Magill released his 2016 double-disc concept album Roots and Branches debuting at #46 on the Folk DJ charts. Writes grammy-winner Tim OBrien:
He has learned from and now plays with the best in the genre. On Branches you can hear a new musical voice emerging. Im gonna keep listening for Finn Magill.
He is joined by another multi instrumentalist and world-wide respected Alan Murray from Scotland but recently moved to the Boston area.
The second part of the double-bill will be taken by Rakish. Violinist Maura Shawn Scanlin and guitarist Conor Hearn The pair gets their name from the traditional Irish tune Rakish Paddy. This duo embraces a wealth of influences that range from Classical thru American trad, to Celtic. In a performance that is something more akin to concert music, Rakish explores tunes and songs from Irish and American folk traditions in a way that reflects their shared interest in and love for chamber music and jazz.
The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the most sought-after boutique series of trad presentation in the world. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
