Sayyid Darwish in the Garden: A Fundraising Concert for the Aswat Ensembles

Thank you for your interest in our event, but we are currently at capacity for the venue and are no longer selling tickets.

You are cordially invited to September 29ths Sayyid Darwish in the Garden:  A Fundraising Concert for the Aswat Ensembles featuring music composed by Father of Modern Arab Music Sayyid Darwish.  Funds raised will go directly towards supporting Zawaya and Aswats mission of promoting Arab Culture and Arts throughout the Bay Area.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, weve not received the institutional funding needed to balance our 2018 budget so we need your support to ensure that Aswat, Aswat Women, and Aswat Youth ensembles are able to offer the compelling programs and performances we all love.

This intimate garden concert will host an exclusive audience of 100 of Aswat's biggest fans.  Complimentary beverages and hors d'oeuvres will be served.

Tickets for the fundraising concert can be purchased for $100 each at

Additional donations can be made by sending a check of any size to Zawaya, 311 41st Ave, San Mateo, CA 94403

Donations of $500 will entitle the donor to two tickets to Sept 29th's Sayyid Darwish in the Garden & two tickets to January 13ths From Aleppo to Istanbul: Sufi Music of the 19-20th Centuries

Donations of $1000 will entitle the donor to five VIP tickets to 3 Aswat Concerts - Sayyid Darwish in the Garden, From Aleppo to Istanbul, & Aswat Summer 2019 Concert

Zawaya is a non-profit organization that seeks to contribute to the multicultural discourse of the Bay Area with the Arab Arts.  Zawaya means aspects or corners, suggesting the many art forms to be discovered and enjoyed in Arab culture.  It was founded in 2003 by Nabila Mango and Haya Shawwa Ben-Halim, two Arab-American women who recognized that the challenges faced by the Arab-American community in the Bay Area requires a creative response.  With Zawaya, they sought to give the Arab community a voice, including a musical one.  Aiming to address stereotypes and misconceptions, Zawaya offers a genuine image of Arab Americans and their rich civilization, which can only be a source of strength for American society.

Aswat is the Bay Areas premier Arab music ensemble.  True to Zawayas commitment to pluralism and inclusion, Aswat is multi-racial and multi-ethnic, and reaches out to the diverse Bay Area community with folkloric, classical, contemporary, and sacred Arab music. Aswats doors remain open to all who want to participate in the exciting, enriching exchange between Arab Americans and other communities through the universal language of music.
