Illicit: A Shadow Story
NOTE: Please stay tuned to www.belfry.bc.ca/tickets/ for ticket sales information, available very soon!
In 2016, a group of harm reduction workers and frontline responders from the Downtown Eastside community embarked on an artistic journey exploring our lived experience of illicit drug culture, the human impacts of drug policy, and the realities of the opioid overdose crisis. The result? A shadow play telling one community's story of courage, tragedy, and hope. Please join us as we travel for the first time out of Vancouver to share our production of "Illicit" at the historic Belfry Theatre's Studio A, followed by an Opioid Dialogue in collaboration with community partners. Through the magic of shadow theatre, music, and poetry, you've never experienced the Downtown Eastside like this before!
We believe that the arts can play a significant role in harm reduction because they have the ability to reveal a shared humanity. Our hope is to, with imagination and honesty, fight the stigma that still surrounds people who use illicit drugs and alcohol - stigma that impedes our ability as a society to effectively respond to and prevent tragedies like the overdose crisis.
