At the turn of the century, classical music stood at a crossroads. Would it continue in the lush, lavish late-Romantic style spearheaded by Brahms, or break away and turn in a new direction? This program contrasts two major chamber works premiered just a year apart: Dora Pejacevic's Piano Quartet and Arnold Schoenberg's Chamber Symphony no. 1.
