Hailed by the Georgia Straight as "ambitious in its scope" and an event where "musical excellence is assured," the Blueridge Chamber Music Festival offers innovative programming, dazzling artists, and unforgettable performances in an idyllic summer setting. Now entering its ninth season, Blueridge presents a characteristic blend of beloved chamber music classics and intriguing new music played by Canada's most thrilling performers. The North Shore News calls it "not what people usually expect from a chamber music festival."

1. About Time (August 9 at 7)

Let time stop as you immerse yourself in a sound world of rhapsody and romance. The Blueridge Chamber Music Festival opens its ninth season with a thrilling and opulent program combining works by Clara Schumann, Johannes Brahms, and Vancouver's own Jocelyn Morlock. Plus, discover the sumptuously original music of the unjustly neglected Croatian Romantic composer, Dora Pejacevic.

Jocelyn Morlock: Asylum
Clara Schumann: Three Romances, op. 22
Dora Pejacevic: Violin Sonata in D Major, op. 26
Dora Pejacevic: Romance, op. 22
Johannes Brahms: Piano Trio no. 1 in B Major, op. 8

2. About the Little Things (August 12 at 7)

Even little things can be precious. Delight in the power of the miniature in this rare complete performance of Hugo Wolfs ineffably charming masterpiece, the Italian Songbook. Blueridge brings these saucy and heartfelt little vignettes about love, community, and day-to-day life closer to home by presenting Paul Heyse's poetry alongside reinterpretations by the acclaimed Vancouver-based Métis/Icelandic writer Carleigh Baker.

Hugo Wolf: Italienisches Liederbuch

3. About Face! (August 16 at 7)

At the turn of the century, classical music stood at a crossroads. Continue in the lush late-Romantic style spearheaded by Brahms, or turn in a new direction? This program highlights two major chamber works premiered just a year apart: Dora Pejacevic's Piano Quartet and Arnold Schoenberg's First Chamber Symphony.

Dora Pejacevic: Piano Quartet in D Minor, op. 25
Anton Webern: Six Songs, op. 14
Johannes Brahms: Piano Trio no. 3 in C Minor, op. 101
Arnold Schoenberg: Chamber Symphony no. 1 in E Major, op. 9 (arr. Anton Webern)

4. About Us (August 19 at 7)

Chamber music is all about connection, community, and relationships--and there's no more potent relationship than the string quartet! The Blueridge Festival closes with a concert by Canada's celebrated Borealis String Quartet, featuring Shostakovich's rich and vibrant Ninth Quartet and Dvorak's ebullient "American."  Rounding out the program is the radiant First Quartet, subtitled "A falcon, a storm, or a great song," by the Latvian-born, Okanagan-based composer Imant Raminsh.

Imant Raminsh: String Quartet no. 1
Dmitri Shostakovich: String Quartet no. 9
Antonin Dvorak: String Quartet in F Major, op. 94 "American"
