LEARNING GOALS: The following concepts will be emphasized: - Choose a subject/location that offers depth, contrast and strong geometry. - See the scene as foreground, mid-ground and background to create depth. - Fill the page with relaxed, smoothly flowing lines to produce a realistic yet whimsical drawing packed with detail. - Enhance realism with diluted India ink washes and pen hatching.
WORKSHOP PLAN:
5 min: Introductions 25 min: Instructor demo of the 5-step drawing technique 2.5 hours: Students try out the technique while instructor circulates to consult one-on-one. 20 mins: Final throwdown and review. Student work is shared and insights and successes shared.

Instructor info: Steven Reddy draws detailed illustrations of urban scenes, cluttered interiors and complex still lives on location in pen, ink and watercolor. A teacher with Seattle Public Schools since 1998, Steven currently teaches Illustration at Gage Academy in Seattle, has two online classes with Craftsy.com, taught at the USk 2017 Symposium in Chicago, and has published three large-format illustrated memoirs which showcase 40 years from his obsessive sketchbook diaries.
