Why Improv?: Improv is for everyone! Improvisational theater is the ultimate tool in learning the skills needed to collaborate with one another. Improv can be used to sharpen theatrical skills, to gain confidence in front of audiences, to hone public speaking skills and to improve "thinking on your feet." From the days of Commedia Del Arte to the current cast of Saturday Night Live actors, improvisation has always laid the groundwork for strong performance on the stage and off. Students can expect to apply the skills learned in improve to improving communication in everyday life.
Class Description: This class will focus on the basics of improvisation including: team building, listening, agreement, character work and emotional reactions. In 6 weeks, students will learn how to create an engaging unscripted scene using just a simple suggestion as inspiration. This will be accomplished through the practice of both quick "short form" games and an introduction to "long form" theatrical improvisation. The class will culminate in a performance where students will play games similar to those seen on the show "Whose line is it Anyway"!
