Cover Crop & Soil Health Demo & Discussion Series, 1: Brassica cover crops & biofumigation
Join WSU Clark County Extension at the 78th St. Heritage Farm for the first in a series of demos and discussion events focused on cover crops and soil health topics. This event series will consist of a specific topic area that will be covered by a speaker and feature a demonstration. Each of these events will be semi-informal, with participant discussion encouraged throughout, and time set aside at the end of the event for open discussion on cover crops and soil health. The event will also allow time for viewing demonstrations, networking, and snacks and refreshments will be provided.

This events topic will generally be focused on using brassica cover crops, with a specific focus on their use for biofumigation. Justin ODea, WSUs Extension Regional Agriculture Specialist for southwest WA will be the speaker for this event.

Program features:
General overview of brassica species being used as cover crops
- Why and when to consider -or avoid- using a brassica cover crop
- Considerations for managing a successful brassica cover crop
Using brassica cover crops for biofumigation
- Potential of and limitations of biofumigation- what we know so far
- Considerations for managing a successful brassica cover crop for biofumigation
- How to facilitate biofumigation in the field

- Demonstration plot and equipment viewing
- Time for open discussion on cover crops & soil health with other attendees and the speaker
- Opportunity for networking
- Refreshments and snacks
