Origins of Addiction: Adverse Childhood Experience, Trauma and Substance Abuse a Chemical Dependency Training Consortium Event
Goal of Training
Clients do not get over or grow out of childhood trauma. These painful experiences, when left unrecognized or untreated, continue to impact clients throughout their lifetime. This training will provide you with insight into what neuroscience and Adverse Childhood Experience Study (ACEs) tells us about the association between our clients experiences as children and their struggles as adults. The fundamental cause of addiction in the framework of brain development, stress response, reward pathways, and neuroscience will be explored. Special emphasis will be given to clinical implications for addictions treatment.

Behavioral Objectives
This training will provide participants with the ability to:

Learn the effects of childhood trauma on Stress Response System, Reward Pathway, and Attachment,
Describe the impact of ACEs on adult health and well-being,
Discuss the Polyvagal theory and the clinical implications on addictions treatment,
Differentiate between Developmental Trauma Disorder (DTD) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and
Apply Connection skills to enhance recovery and relapse prevention with mental health, addiction, and dual diagnosis clients.
