Albanian and Greek Traditional Polyphonic Singing Workshops
Albanian and Greek Traditional Polyphonic Singing Four Tuesday Evening Workshops led by Lily Storm July 10, 17, 24, 31; 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tuition: $75-$100 sliding scale Limited to 20 singers - advance registration required
This month-long workshop will explore the unique and ancient polyphonic style of singing that is shared between Southern Albania and North-Western Greece. Soulful melodies, wild ornaments, and epic harmonies will transport us to the stone villages perched among the canyons and gorges of the Pindus mountain range.
Lily Storm is a long-time member of Kitka. She has continuously taught community singing classes to adults for the last 15 years, and in addition teaches K-8 music at a public school. She received a Masters in Music Education in 2014. She is currently completing a second solo album of traditional songs, provisionally titled Like Spring Flowers: A Collection of Lullabies from Europe. In 2006, she spent several months traveling and song-collecting in Northern Greece and Albania, and is thrilled to be able to pass these beautiful songs on to others.
