Tour of the Illinois International Port District and Earn 2 AICP Credits for the Tour!
Join CUPPAs Alumni Group as we Tour the Illinois International Port District on Wednesday, May 30th. At 8:15 A.M. we board the bus from CUPPA at 412 South Peoria, and return to CUPPA by 12:30 P.M.
Learn how the Port, in its 190 acres on the lakefront at 95th and 1,600 acres 6 miles south on Lake Calumet, is a landlord working with Marine, Rail and Trucking companies, along with a massive support system, to play a vital role in the global and our local economies.
Learn how the shipping industry receives and sends commodities worldwide; the kinds of businesses and industries that partner to support the Port; what commodities come through the Port; how much infrastructure is needed to run the port; the challenges of getting support from local, state and national government; and why the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers works with the Port. You might also discover why 2 Lake Michigan Cruise ships have chosen the Port as their dock instead of Navy Pier; and what a golf course is doing at the Lake Calumet location. All this and more await your visit.
This Tour fulfills 2 AICP CM Credits: https://www.planning.org/events/eventsingle/9149400/
On the bus with us will be Elizabeth Scott, AICP, an Associate Planner for the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. She is Project Manager of a CMAP project with the Port.
Clayton Harris III, the Port's Executive Director, will provide a short briefing upon our arrival, then accompany us as we tour both facilities.
Tickets are first come, first serve. Register early as to not miss out.
