Cob Oven with Heated Bench Workshop
Please join us to play with earth! In this hands-on workshop you will learn everything you need to know to build your own backyard wood-fired cob oven, an excellent way to make gourmet artisanal breads and pizzas to share with friends and family.
"Cob", an ancient natural building material made from clay and sand naturally holds heat making it an obvious choice for a wood-fired oven.
Workshop participants will: - Build a foundation for the oven using a variety of natural/recycled materials - Insulate the oven using glass bottles, straw, and clay - Identify suitable soil for making cob - Mix cob and use it to build the oven dome with an artistic expression
Allison Dercoli - Experienced Earth house and oven builder on Camano Island will discuss soil and clay testing methods, harvesting materials and full-on oven building from the ground up!
Build a decorative wood-fired cob oven and heated bench, in a dragon design using local natural and/or recycled materials. Cob is an ancient natural building material made from clay and sand, and they have natural ability to hold great amounts of heat (thermal mass).
Dates: Workshop 1: March 9-10th; Workshop 2: March 23 & 24. Join us for one or both.

Cost: $250 Per weekend or $125 per day cash price; all funds must be received 2 days prior to the class. Or purchase online with a processing fee.
Price is for entire weekend to include 4 meals and free camping, or $125 for 1 day with lunch.
Recommended to bring: hat, mud boots (wool inserts recommended), gloves (rubber tipped recommended), water bottle, dress in layers. Tent, sleeping bag, pad and pillow. Option for sleeping in non-heated barn, bring sleeping bag, pad and pillow.
