Dancing Out Loud
Big Red Dance Project presents Dancing Out Loud, featuring live vocals by all-female a cappella group Stella. With artistic director Gerrie Houlihan at the helm, Dancing Out Loud will be a performance of dance and music where the joy is palpable and the technique is sharp!
Two pieces were created in collaboration with Houlihan's Sunday afternoon Community Moves class at the ADF Scripps Studios. Over the course of the last couple of years, this class's wonderful group of movers has sparked a desire to return to choreographing. In the Big Red Dance Project, there is a neuroscientist, a former ADF box office manager and school administrator and several folks who are currently teaching dance or who have recently retired from teaching.
Accompanying the group for one of these two pieces will be the all-female a cappella group, Stella. Stella is a Triangle-based, primarily a cappella septet that is passionate about sharing the songs they love with communities they care about.
Rounding out the evening, Durham audiences will be treated to two older works from Houlihan's repertoire. Local dancers Allie Pfeffer and Rachel Mehaffey will perform Til the Cows Come Home and Renay Aumiller and Lucas Melfi will perform Throb, an excerpt from an evening length work entitled Change of Heart.
