Lawrence English 'Notes From The Field' Artist Lecture
Can we hear someone listening? What experiential elements are involved in conducting and completing a field recording? Lawrence English strives to answer these questions in his development of the emergent theoretical framework called 'The Listener's Listening' an approach to listening rooted in affect that reflects the agentive and creative capacities of the listener. Notes From The Field sees Lawrence share his unprecedented research and conceptual approaches to the act of listening and practice of field recording.
Working across an eclectic array of aesthetic investigations, English's work prompts questions of field, perception, and memory. He investigates the politics of perception, through live performance and installation, to create works that ponder subtle transformations of space and ask audiences to become aware of that which exists at the edge of perception.
