PTC has partnered with The Downtown Eastside Women's Centre, which assists women with their immediate and crisis needs so they can develop stability and access the resources they need to improve health, family, employment and housing situations. The Centre promotes positive change by offering individual long-term support, education, advocacy, peer mentorship and exposure to alternatives. At Unscripted: Where the Devil Cant Go, we will be accepting personal care items such as unused toiletries cosmetics, and first aid supplies to donate to The DTES Women's Centre. ARTISTS:
JERILYNN WEBSTER, aka JB THE FIRST LADY, is a member of the Nuxalk & Onondaga Nations. She is a Vancouver-based hip hop and spoken word artist, beat-boxer, cultural dancer and youth educator. With four studio albums under her belt, JB sees her songs as a way of capturing oral history, and isnt afraid to write lyrics that speak to challenging subjects like residential schools and missing and murdered indigenous women.
MISS CHRISTIE LEE. From Musqueam/tsleilwahtuth Nations, Christie lee Charles, aka Miss Christie Lee, is a direct descendant of the great warrior Capilano. Christie raps in her Indigenous Musqueam dialect with a passion to empower Aboriginal youth to be proud of their roots. She is also a member of Vancouvers First Ladies Crew, an all female hip hop crew of strong women with positive voice.
VOSTOK (The East) is an East Vancouver-based acapella trio specializing in music from Eastern Europe and the Balkans. They have been seen across the lower mainland performing at festivals and concerts including the Kaleidoscope Festival in Coquitlam, the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival in East Vancouver, the Dovbush Ukrainian Dancers' Mosaic: A Celebration of Ukrainian Dance in North Vancouver, and the Britannia Shipyards summer music series in Steveston. With songs in 10 different languages and dialects, singers Aliya Griffin, Jessica Hood, and Emily Villavicencio deliver a rich and varied set. A Russian lullaby, a dissonant Bulgarian chant, a Ukrainian spring song first heard on a Kiev subway Vostok's songs take the listener from bliss to despair and back again.
A WAKE OF VULTURES. Comprised of Nancy Tam, Daniel OShea, and Conor Wylie, A Wake of Vultures creates interdisciplinary performances often inspired by science fiction, Japanese Anime, and questions of reality and perception. They blend low-brow inspirations with highfalutin ideas to create bizarre convergences that propose hybrid visions of the future(s). They make compact, tourable works marked by formal detachment, ritual, playful misdirection, unstable perspectives, and retro and new technologies using sound, video, and performance as our primary mediums. Their works have taken diverse forms, including installations, durational performance installations, audio-walks, and plays, and have been presented in Vancouver, the United States, and Europe, at SFU Woodwards, The Shadbolt Centre, Theatre Replacement, P-Bodies Festival in Leipzig, and Performance Studies International (PSi) at Stanford University. A Wake of Vultures is an ongoing, evolving collaboration bonded by an intense friendship. They eat together, they play together, they work together.
