Sister Act, the Musical
The Costa Mesa Playhouse concludes its 53rd season with the heavenly, uplifting, hit musical, Sister Act, running April 6 to May 6, 2018.

Based on the hit 1992 Whoopi Goldberg film, Sister Act features original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), lyrics by Glenn Slater, and a book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner. It was nominated for five Tony Awards, including best musical.

When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder by her gangster boyfriend, she is put in protective custody in the one place the police are sure she won't be a found: a convent. Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover.

Directed by David A. Blair, with musical direction by Stephen Hulsey, the cast stars Melissa Montanez as Deloris and Kim Peterson as the Mother Superior, with Cherie Aniceto, Tisha Bellantuoni, Edward Benford, Samantha Blair, Michael Dale Brown, Beverly Crain, Ashley DeMatteo, Teri Griffin, Jessica-Elisabeth, Charles Johnson, Shelly Lee, Lori Lewis, Tommy Linehan, Caron Lowe, Marc Marger, Janet McGregor, Emily Price, Dana Reed, Lauren Shoemaker, Jenise Soto Shourds, Sheri Vasquez, and Octavius Womack

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm, April 6 through May 6, 2018. The first performance Friday, April 6, is a Preview for which all seats are $18. The opening night Gala celebration, including a catered post-show reception, is Saturday, April 7. Gala tickets are $22 general and $20 for students and seniors.
