Panel discussion - Career in Consulting
Ever wondered what it is like to work as a consultant? Are you interested in this career path but still wonder how it is? Join us on March 21st for our panel discussion with consultants!

This event is jointly organized by Biotech Connection Bay Area (BCBA) and the Association for Women in Science (AWIS, Palo Alto Chapter).
BCBA is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the careers of life science trainees and delivering value to Bay Area biotech and Pharma companies.
AWIS is a national organization that serves to encourage, inspire, engage and promote women in science.

About our panelists:
Alicia Levey, PhD Vice President of Business Development and Strategy at Tempest.
Prior to Tempest, Alicia was Vice President of Business Development at Inception Sciences, a small molecule drug discovery company formed in collaboration with Versant Ventures, a global venture capital firm focused primarily on early stage investing and biotechnology company creation. While at Inception, Alicia led business development and alliance management activities across companies under the Inception umbrella. While at Inception, Alicia led or played key roles in new company incubation efforts and in establishing multiple enabling Pharma partnerships. Prior to Inception, Alicia was a Principal in the San Francisco office of Versant Ventures where she led the diligence on multiple deals including several that have been acquired (Novira) or are now public (Audentes). Before joining Versant, Alicia worked as a Project Leader in the San Francisco office of The Boston Consulting Group where she focused on primarily on biopharma and global health strategy. Alicias academic background is in Cancer Biology, earning a PhD from the Stanford University School of Medicine where she focused on the development of novel activity based protease probes for non-invasive imaging in cancer, work that led to multiple peer reviewed publications and two US patents. Originally from Colorado, Alicia graduated Summa Cum Laude with dual degrees in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder where she was a Boettcher and Norlin Scholar.

Rachel Licht, PhD Exponent
A chemical engineer by training, Dr. Lichts expertise is in the areas of heterogeneous catalysis and physical chemistry. She is particularly interested in how intrinsic chemical properties impact material performance. Dr. Licht applies her knowledge to a range of engineering issues in the areas of chemical reaction kinetics and solid material characterization, particularly as they apply to the evaluation of lithium-ion batteries.
Prior to joining Exponent, her graduate research dealt with the conversion of petroleum feedstocks to monomers and polymers of industrial relevance. Specifically, Dr. Licht elucidated the mechanisms and chemical driving forces of partial oxidation and ammoxidation reactions of light, unsaturated hydrocarbons over mixed metal oxide materials. She used a multi-prong approach that combined insights from atomic-scale theoretical quantum chemical modeling (DFT) with findings from macro-scale, intrinsic chemical kinetics experiments. As part of this work, she designed and constructed a reactor setup capable of safely handling highly toxic and corrosive gases that quantitatively monitored a large number of reaction products using gas chromatography (GC). She also employed a variety of solid-phase characterization techniques such as X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Visible spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy to understand catalyst structure-function relationships.

Michelleanne Bradley
Michelleanne Bradley is the Founder, President (and clean up staff) of Metis Consulting Services Inc.  She has over 15 years of experience in the Biotech and Pharmaceutical Industries. Ms Bradley has led the implementation drug safety departments for small organizations, led acquisition integration for midsized organizations, and database implementations with large international corporations.
Ms Bradley is currently a pharmacovigilance and quality assurance consultant, performing site, company, and vendor audits, gap analysis, and oversight of drug safety database implementation.  She has extensive experience with FDA, EMA and other international regulatory agency audits and consults with a testing lab in the San Diego area. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia, Athens GA.

Matthew Cook, PhD Boston Consulting Group
Matt is currently a Project Leader in the San Francisco office of the Boston Consulting Group. He joined BCG in 2015 and has focused entirely on healthcare projects encompassing pharma, biotech, and medtech topics in R&D, commercial and medical affairs. Before BCG Matt worked in two difference postdocs at UCSF with a year-long stint at an education tech company, Udacity. Matt earned his PhD in Cell Biology from Duke University in 2010. He has five first-authored papers published in peer-reviewed journals and another six papers on which he is co-author.
