"King of Kings" Silent Movie, featuring Walt Strony, Organ
Travel back in time with us to 1927, for Cecil B. DeMilles epic silent screen film, King of Kings. Based on the last weeks of Christs life on earth, the film stars Henry B. Warner, one of the original Warner Brothers, in the title role as Jesus.
The film will be accompanied by acclaimed organist Walt Strony, known internationally for his theatre organ and silent movie work. He will be performing on our own Bedient Opus 80, one of Sacramentos largest instruments, as part of the St. Johns Resounds! concert series. Walt will be using his own originally improvised score for the film. Walt has twice been named Organist of the Year by the American Theatre Organ Society, the only living organist so honored. He has performed on both the largest operating pipe organ in the world, the Wanamaker in Philadelphia, and recorded on the largest theatre organ as well, the Sanfillipo in Illinois.
Plan to join us Saturday, March 24th, at 6:30pm in the church sanctuary for this memorable preparation for your Holy Week. Tickets are priced at $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12, $25 maximum per family, and are available at the church office or on the church website. All are welcome, childcare will be provided for children unable to read the silent movie subtitles. Free popcorn with your admission!
