Lorraine Klaasen & June Garber -- Montreal
"in their blood.Sisters in Song" will celebrate the South African heritage of Juno-award winner Lorraine Klaasen and acclaimed jazz vocalist June Garber and showcase the distinctive talents of these accomplished singers and entertainers. Lorraine and June were both born in Johannesburg and came to Canada in the 70s to escape apartheid, a system abhorrent to each of them.
The concert will weave together a program of songs that evoke the enduring connection of Lorraine and June to their native land with songs of struggle, hope, joy and celebration. Lorraine will perform her uplifting and energetic repertoire from the African songbook and Junes renditions of beautiful jazz standards will complete the circle to Lorraines late mother, the legendary Thandi Klaasen.
