Washington Farm Forestry Assoc - NE Chapter - Annual Winter Meeting
Forest to Faucet - Streams, Wells, and Wetlands - Small Forest Landowners making a Difference
Forests cover about one-third of the nation's land area, and although they have roles in timber production, habitat, recreation and wilderness, their most important output may be water. The study also cited the value of watershed councils and citizen groups in getting more people involved in water, stream and land management issues at a local level, increasing the opportunities for all views to be considered, and conflicts avoided.
Speakers will be sharing information on how modern forest practices can assist landowners in the protection of streams, rivers and riparian zones. Agencies will provide information on "best management" practices and cost-sharing programs that could help balance timber harvest with sustainable water flow and quality. Government representatives will update the attendees on the passage of the Senate Bill 6091, regarding the Hirst Decision, and what does it mean to the local communities and forest landowners.
Continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided. Please register by February 26, 2018. Registration on the day of the meeting will be taken, but lunch and seating cannot be guaranteed.
