Motherpeace Tarot through the lens of plants, cultures, and healing
Botanical Dimensions Ethnbotany Library, Occidental Center for the Arts
Occidental, CA
Share this event:

The Motherpeace Tarot deck was created in 1981 and has sold hundreds of thousands of copies, influencing three generations. It was the first feminist deck, the first round deck, and the first to include people of color from different cultures in its imagery. Nature and myth are major influences in the images and interpretations.

The Motherpeace Tarot deck is a widely beloved tool for self-investigation and understanding one's path in the larger story. It is resurging in popularity and relevance, in this era of focus on gender, culture, and race. In this workshop, we will explore the meaning of the cards, with a particular focus on the diverse ethnobotanical and multicultural imagery in the deck.

A portion of the day will be devoted to using the Motherpeace cards, and to experiencing the power of the deck to map the terrain of some aspect or question of your life.
Come away with a deeper understanding of how to use the deck as a tool for insight and healing. Open to anyone, from Tarot novices to experts; any gender, age 18 and older.

Presenter: Karen Vogel is a renowned intuitive who is widely known as co-creator of the Motherpeace Tarot deck. She is a tarot reader, teacher and writer, as well as an extraordinary artist. She sculpts wood and stone, animating them with her deep sense of spirit in nature. She is trained in anthropology, women's studies and shamanism. Karen has been based in West Sonoma County for many years.

Moderator: Ethnobotanist Kathleen Harrison, founder of Botanical Dimensions, is an old friend of Karen's. Kat will assist Karen and guide a group dialogue.
