Have you wanted to learn how to make your own garments but don't know where to start? Learn to sew in a fun and creative environment with The Fashion Ration! Students will get lots of one-on-one attention with class size limited to five students.
Make a sturdy everyday tote that you'll want to carry everywhere. Never used a sewing machine before? This is the class for you! You'll learn how to thread a machine, how to wind a bobbin, how to choose the right needle for your fabric, sewing in a straight line, how to create squared corners, and how to sew on super strong straps. Fabric will be provided!
This class is BYOSM (Bring Your Own Sewing Machine). If you do not have a machine but want to participate, please contact The Fashion Ration and we will do our best to make accommodations.
About the instructor: Nickey Robare has been sewing since childhood. In 2015 she founded The Fashion Ration, a queer friendly and body positive tailoring service, with the goal of giving folks with all types of bodies access to fashion that makes them feel great. She is the co-creator of Behind The Seams, a Northern Spark project focused on the intersections of fashion, the environment, and human rights. In addition to classes at her personal studio, she teaches youth and adults sewing at several Twin Cities non-profits.
