Catholic Guilt- A Dark Comedy
Mass includes a healthy dose of sex talk, mortal sin, cosmic bowling, and more! It blends stand-up, voice overs, projections, music, and your sinful audience participation. Catholic Guilt takes a look at the power of religion and what it can do to ones psyche.
Catholic Guilt was first written and performed in the 2016 SolowFest in Philadelphia. It was remounted in the winter of 2016 as part of White Pines Productions' Bright Nights series. The third showing of Catholic Guilt will go up this coming December in Philadelphia, PA in the Calvary Center chapel space at Curio Theater Company.
What is the show about? Catholic guilt was first written to take a look at religion and it's affect on the psyche. Religion can bring people together, and bring peace and meaning to life. It is often a huge part of one's identity. But what about the dark side of it? It can be polarizing, creating a sense of "us vs. them". Religion often drives people to act out of fear. People infused with religious dogma can become neurotic because of the fear of not being able to fulfill their religion's expectations. Kelly explores these ideas through the telling of her own personal experience.
