A Christmas Memory
A Christmas Memory
Join us for a staged reading of one of the world's most beloved Christmas stories, A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote. Truman was a very lonely child, abandoned by his parents, and sent to live with his elderly cousins in a small town in Alabama at age 7. Here he meets Sook Faulk, his eccentric 65 year old cousin. She is a child-like woman, and, like Truman, desperately lonely. They find each other, and become best friends. The story tells of their tradition of making fruitcakes for distant friends, like President Roosevelt, and it is a beautiful tale of their friendship, and how Christmas was celebrated in a long ago America. It is also a reminder of what the true meaning of Christmas is, giving in spite of the fact that you have very little yourself. Dan Doby and Pat Shumate perform this reading every year for a charity. This year, they are performing this American classic to help the Singing Dog Farm Husky Rescue. Debbie Timmins is the owner and operator of the rescue, and she gives her life to these animals. Part of every ticket goes to her and her beloved Huskies. Please join us for the reading, (Bring tissues, it is a very touching story). and celebrate with us in the best sense of Christmas...sharing a beautiful story, and helping animals have a better life. merry Christmas to all!
