DAVID LINDLEY
David Lindley is a musicians musician, known as much by the sounds he created on other artists records as he is for his own recordings. His first band, Kaleidoscope, released four records before 1970 and is regarded by many as the first world-music rock group, opening for Cream on their final US tour in 1968. Soon after, he became a highly-sought session musician, appearing on dozens of recordings by Linda Ronstadt, Maria Muldaur, Emmylou Harris, James Taylor, Joe Walsh, John Prine, and Bob Dylan, amongst many others.
He was a regular collaborator and touring band member with Rod Stewart, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Warren Zevon, Jackson Browne and Ry Cooder, resulting in a number of studio and live albums punctuated by Lindley's easily recognizable tone, sometimes subtle and refined, sometimes searing hot and spine-tingling.
In addition to his work for others, David formed and led El Rayo-X through ten years of touring through the 1980s, prior to embarking on several duo-projects with a diverse collection of musicians, notably Henry Kaiser, Hani Naser, and Wally Ingram.
This time around, David Lindley will perform as a soloist, drawing inspiration from six continents and his own California roots, fine-tuned over 50 years of record-making and touring. He will be performing in Courtenay on March 23, and Victoria on March 24. Full details are posted at www.innermusica.ca.
