CRYSTAL ZILLWOOD - These Hands and Evolutio
These Hands is inspired by the attitudes shown towards gruelling physical daily work on my familys traditional dairy farm in Devon. The piece is rooted in observations of farmers work lives on and off the land and explores the movement of their daily lives. It also draws inspiration from other forms of manual work and celebrates the quality of movement within the routine of working lives. The piece combines an exploration of physicality along with the sounds and the voices of their working environment .
Evolutio A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better.' The piece has been shaped through a range of research methods and Crystal has received advice on human evolution, anthropology and Monkey behaviour from various academics and anthropologists. With the support of Janet Smith and the staff at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Evolutio has been developed over a period of time into a 15 minute solo exploring the theme of Evolution.
MATHIEU GEFFRÉ What Songs May Do
An insight into the power of songs, reinforced by Nina Simones 1976 performance of the song 'Feelings'. Mathieu Geffré looks at what happens when we challenge the tradition of our seat for the freedom to respond as an audience .In this duet, the two dancers remodel the stage into their theatre seat and attend Simones performance. We look at how the relationship of the two characters will evolve as they embrace and express their emotions with authenticity in response to Simone's sounds.
