Borrego Springs, San Diego's mid-century desert resort celebrates its history and architectural heritage through a lecture and tour benefitting two non-profit community organizations.

February 1, Friday , 7:30 p.m. (DOORS OPEN AT 7PM)
Anza Borrego Desert Natural History Association 41st Annual Desert Lecture Series: The Architecture of San Diego's Mid-Century Modern Desert Resort, presented by Bill Lawrence.

Location: Borrego Springs Performing Arts Center, 590 Palm Canyon Drive, Borrego Springs, CA  92004

NOTE; SEATING FOR THE LECTURE IS ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SEATED BASIS. DOORS OPEN AT 7PM. TO ENSURE A SEAT PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY.

The heat, light, and intense beauty of the Anza-Borrego Desert have a profound effect on the architectural heritage of Borrego Springs. Using period photographs and the contemporary work of photographer Judy Parker, Bill Lawrence, architectural historian and publisher of BorregoModern.com, will explore the mid-century modern architecture of Borrego Springs, and how the designs of the past continue to influence the present and future of the community. No charge to ABDNHA Members. For nonmembers, there is a $5.00 fee at the door, which may be applied to a new membership in ABDNHA. At the Borrego Springs Performing Arts Center. Architectural Tour: Borrego Modern: Architectural Evolution  Mid-Century to Contemporary

Location: Borrego Art Institute,  Christmas Circle and Palm Canyon Drive, Borrego Springs, CA  92004


On February 2, 2013, the Borrego Art Institute and BorregoModern.com will present Borrego Modern: Architectural Evolution  Mid-Century to Contemporary an architectural tour featuring the modern architecture of San Diego's mid-century modern desert resort.

This exclusive tour will showcase the mid-century designs of Henry Hester, William Kesling and Cliff May along with the contemporary designs of Walter Chambers and Richard Orne. The tour provides a snapshot of the evolution of modern desert design in Borrego Springs and the unique architecture it has inspired.
The tour will additionally feature the recent renovations of two historic, mid-century buildings in the community and will give visitors a "behind the scenes" view of their transformation.

Location: Borrego Art Institute,  Palm Canyon Drive and Christmas Circle, Borrego Springs, CA  92004

A post tour reception will also give guests the opportunity to meet and mingle with other modern architecture enthusiasts and to explore more in depth, the Borrego Art Institute.

TOUR PARTICIPANTS MUST CHECK IN AT THE BORREGO ART INSTITUTE, 655 PALM CANYON DRIVE PRIOR TO BEGINNING TOUR. CHECK IN OPENS AT 9:30AM.

A Note about Accessibility: As this tour features four private homes there is no ADA accessibility. Due to the natural topography of the sites, some homes may require changes in elevation or stairs to navigate.

A Note about Parking: As this is a self-driven tour, parking will be on the street. Please park off the pavement and do not block driveways. You may be required to walk short distances in order to view the homes. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
