The Outsiders
S. E. Hintons powerful compassionate book about young people is the source of this plan, as it was for the film version which has become a modern classic.
Every role in this work of art as a special impact which may have contributed to the fact that an extraordinary number of those appearing in that film became major stars, including Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, Diane Lane, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Emilio Estevez, and Rob Lowe.
This entirely practical stage adaptation deals with real people, seen through the eyes of Ponyboy, a young Grease caught up in territorial battles between the have-it-made rich kids - the Socs - and his tough underprivileged Greaser family and friends. In the midst of urban warfare, Ponyboy can't forget a Robert Frost poem which speaks of their fragile young lives, saying Nothing gold can stay.
This is a play about young people who are not yet hopeless, about latent decency in the midst of struggle, about not losing touch with the residua slivers of gold within us all.
