Third Thursday - November 16, 2017 Healthcare
Who knew healthcare could be so complicated?

Our panelists did and do. But they can also help us untangle some of that complication.

Learn about how Minnesotans get their healthcare, why are the costs so high, what effect federal decisions have in Minnesota, is there hope for bipartisanship, what is universal healthcare and how could that happen in MN and what beyond healthcare affects health.  Finally, learn how we can solve some of these issues and how you can work on this topic as a citizen advocate.  Spoiler alert: there will be tradeoffs.

Our great panelists are:

Stacie Weeks- from the day she obtained her joint law degree/masters in public health from the University of Arkansas, Ms. Weeks has been involved in a number of health care initiatives starting as a policy representative/lobbyist for NARAL, a contract analyst for the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a staff attorney for the Legal Services Advocacy Project, Administrator for the Senate HHS Budget Committee and her current role as a Policy Advisor at the MN Dept. of Human Services.  When she is not trying to make sense of the healthcare landscape, she spends her time wrangling her son and daughter.

Tony Lourey- Senator Lourey is an alt-rock aficionado turned farmer/lawyer from Kerrick, MN who has served on his local township board before running for State Senate.  When he joined the Senate in 2006 he quickly developed a reputation as a hard-working expert on health.  That reputation led him to chair of the Senate Health Finance committee and continued membership as the ranking member.  When not working on healthcare, Sen. Lourey works on his collection of vintage cars

Dan Pollock- Mr. Pollock has had a long history in public service and politics, starting as a policy analyst in the Office of the Governor in NJ, a Deputy Policy Director for the Klobuchar Senate Campaign, the Communications Director for Madia for Congress, a research consultant for the MN. House of Representatives, Research Director for the Anderson-Kelliher gubernatorial campaign, the committee administrator for the House Health Finance Committee, the legislative Director for the Dept. of Human Services, a policy Advisor for Gov. Dayton, the Exec. Asst. to Majority Leader Erin Murphy and currently as the Deputy Commissioner for the MN. Dept. of Health.  When not working on policy and politics, Dan engages in urban (suburban?) gardening.

Please join us at the Black Dog CafĂ© on November 16th for a educational and entertaining lock at the complicated world of healthcare.  While admission is free please RSVP via the Brownpaper tickets link so that we can tell our great venue how many people will be coming.
