Oddsisters Saloon #1...The Rabid Parabola
The Oddsisters Saloon
presents
THE RABID PARABOLA An evening of incongruous, mongrelous performances and occurrences in my house, with featured acts Devon Sproule (singer-songwriter) & Peter Monticup (magician)
Oh hello! We the Oddsisters are inaugurating a home-variety-saloon styled after the concert saloons of yore, back before vaudeville cleaned things up and the word salon had been streamlined. This first time we're presenting two featured acts plus a handful of very short pieces by artists trying something new or releasing something they've never released. We are also presenting dinner.
With these saloons, we hope to connect artists we love with new audiences and with each other--for there to be intermingling of all kinds. We're hoping to find new ways to support artists, and provide a platform for experimentation in an intimate environment.
Come promptly at 7 to eat.
PARKING: There is limited parking by my house. If you can't carpool or walk we suggest parking anywhere you can find space along E. Market or Chesapeake, or at Riverview Park which is several blocks down from my house.
ABOUT DEVON SPROULE
"I'm imagining a golden string that is connecting everything but especially, beings where love has been. I've imagined it again and again so often, it isn't even imagining, it is making it happen."
Devon Sproule's music welcomes the magical and the tangible. It celebrates human complication in the language of nature. It is North American music with weirdo roots.
In Summer 2015, she recorded songs from a new collection, The Gold String, in Yukon and Nova Scotia. Besides Canada and America, Sproule also tours regularly in Europe and has traveled with her music to Africa and Australia.
"Sproule's lyrics glance off each other arrestingly, juxtaposing images." (Financial Times). "Her quirky affectations bring to mind Bjork, and forays into the dark, Michelle Shocked." (Village Voice) http://devonsproule.com

ABOUT PETER MONTICUP
Peter Monticup began his career in magic at the age of seven, when he became an apprentice to Professor Henry Bessette, part of the Miracle Team. By age seventeen, he had developed a full stage show, and was the featured act at a number of magic conventions as well as in top New York nightclubs. A few years later, he purchased the House of Magic in upstate New York, starting his long and successful career in supplying quality tricks and props to professional magicians and magic hobbyists. For the past 49 years, he has continued to perform as well as develop his well-known magic business. Monticup is also a noted collector of magic memorabilia (some of which can be seen in the MagicTricks.com Library of Magic). He discovered the DeLaMano material in 1986 in an old trunk hidden in a barn. He also discovered the Houdini envelopes tucked away in Houdini's personal desk when he purchased the desk in the 1980s.
