Central Colorado Conservancy Annual Event & Fundraiser
The Central Colorado Conservancy hosts its Annual Event and Fundraiser at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 5:30-9 p.m.

The Conservancy is committed to conserving the region's land, water and wildlife by partnering with landowners, agricultural producers and the community. The Nov. 9 event is the nonprofit's major annual fundraiser, including heavy appetizers, a cash bar, silent auction, presentation of the Annual Conservationist Award, and updates on strategic goals, programs and initiatives. Proceeds benefit land and water conservation in Central Colorado.

Since its inception in 2001, the Conservancy has helped protect more than 10,000 acres of land and restored miles of waterways in its services area, which includes Chaffee, Lake, Saguache, Fremont, Park and Gunnison counties.

During the event's silent auction, thousands of dollars worth of goods are available, including ski gear and lift tickets, guided outdoor adventures, local wine and spirits, hot springs passes, gift certificates to local establishments, and more. This year's event will include "Through the Artists' Eyes," an art show benefitting the Conservancy's work. The show highlights Artists for Conservation, a new program in which artists join the organization to support its work, while the Conservancy provides exposure for member-artists who reflect their vision of the natural world's wonders.

A special presentation will be given by rancher, land steward and environmentalist Sid Goodloe, who with his wife, Cheryl, has owned and operated Carrizo Valley Ranch in southern New Mexico for 56 years. The ranch's operation is an example of how owner stewardship can produce results unimagined in some agricultural and conservation circles.

Goodloe is founder and president of the Southern Rockies Agricultural Land Trust. He is the recipient of the New Mexico Watershed Coalitions Steward Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the New Mexico Riparian Council, among many other accolades. Goodloe will expand on his philosophy and techniques of land and water stewardship during the event address.

The event will also highlight the recipients of the Conservancys Annual Conservationist Award, Steve and Nancy Oswald. Since taking over their ranch near Cotopaxi from Nancy's parents in 1991, the Oswalds have changed the ranching paradigm by renewing their land and, through their generous spirit of sharing, helped ranchers in serval counties realize the potential of their properties. Today, the Oswald Cattle Company is a model of sustainable ranching in Colorado.

Conservancy Executive Director Andrew Mackie and Board President Cindy Williams will provide an update of progress made toward the organization's ambitious 10-year Strategic Plan that aims to triple the organization's pace of conservation over the next decade. These include commitments to conserve and restore another 20,000 acres of land; care for healthy watersheds by restoring an additional four miles of waterways and planting 50,000 native trees and shrubs through river restoration projects; and connecting community members to conservation by engaging 3,000 participants annually, while doubling membership and volunteerism.

If you can't make the event, please consider making a donation to support the Conservancy's ongoing work in Central Colorado.

Annual Membership Meeting: All current Conservancy members are invited to participate in the Annual Membership Meeting, taking place directly before the Annual Event on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017. The meeting will start at 4:45 p.m. at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds. In addition to a budget and project overview, annual elections are held for the board of directors.
