Rising Tides Forum, San Francisco
Rising Tides Forum, San Francisco

In partnership with AIA San Francisco, the AIA California Council formally invites you to attend a highly interactive Rising Tides Forum.  John F. Kennedy famously observed the impact of economic policy on individuals prosperity and cited the adage, A rising tide lifts all boats. This visual metaphor has since been applied to many other issues, including the power of design to transform the fabric of our society, to improve the built environment, and to promote sustainability and resiliency initiatives.

In todays interconnected world, where our economic prosperity, public safety, and environmental sustainability are directly linked, architects have a distinct opportunity to share knowledge and demonstrate the value of design to transform the places where we work, live and play. However, this responsibility does not emerge from work done in the proverbial silo. Conversations must be had; strategy must be mapped; we must work together.

The main topic up for discussion in this Rising Tides Forum is the AIAs new Center for Practice. The Center for Practice is a coordinating structure for member engagement and resources that communicate AIAs value proposition for firms. Their mission is to facilitate easy and effective access to and integration of relevant AIA resources and services to enable its members practices to thrive.

The Center for Practice will centralize the body of knowledge and programs supporting practice issues across the Institute and on the website. This body of knowledge will include various aspects  domestic, international, large, medium and small firm-size, as well as, resources for firms to assess their commitment to nurturing a prosperous firm culture.

Gene Schnair, FAIA from SOM and Cara Hall, FAIA have joined the AIA as Consulting Fellows in March to lead the Center for Practice and since Gene is based in San Francisco, we have asked him to facilitate a lively and engaging conversation about their efforts thus far. Weve also reserved time to discuss issues facing firms  we need your support.
