Spirit Gum Theatre Company: "The Pillowman" by Martin McDonagh
"The Pillowman" centers on a writer in an unnamed totalitarian state who is being interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a series of child murders. Thought to be one of McDonagh's least forgiving and bravest plays, this pitch-dark comedy offers an unflinching examination of the very nature and purpose of art and storytelling.
"Comedies don't come any blacker . . . [a] spellbinding stunner of a play." - Ben Brantley, The New York Times
