Legends of the Blues V
CURTIS SALGADO
Curtis Salgado is a one-of-a-kind talent whose music is as compelling as his story, his career spanning forty years as vocalist, harmonicist, and songwriter. From co-fronting The Robert Cray Band to leading his own band (and recording nine solo albums), to being the original Blues Brother while helping transform John Belushi into Joliet Jake Blues, to touring the country with Steve Miller and Santana, he is a true musical giant.
In recognition of his talents, Curtis Salgado won the coveted Blues Music Award for B.B. King Entertainer of The Year in 2013 the highest honor the blues world has to offer. More recently, Curtis was awarded the 2017 BMA for Soul Blues Male Artist, Soul Blues Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. Thats after having earned the Soul Blues Artist of The Year honors in 2010, 2012, and 2013.
Curtis Salgado has earned a reputation for high-intensity performances and a repertoire inspired by his encyclopedic knowledge of soul, blues and R&B music. Blues Revue says Salgados music is triumphant, joyful, blues-soaked R&B and declared him to be one of the most soulful, honest singers ever. And hes coming to Arlington!
BEN HUNTER & JOE SEAMONS Ben Hunter and Joe Seamons take their audience on a journey through the history of American roots music. They were awarded 1st place at the 2016 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN out of 94 solo/duo acts representing 16 countries for their unique blend of pre-blues a cappella field hollers, fiddle & banjo breakdowns, and duet distillations of early jazz. We are songsters based in SeattleAmerican roots music is our playground. Blues and folk songs do not need preserving--they are preserving us. Our mission is to spread the glory and whimsy of traditional song through house concerts, street corner stomps, schoolroom shindigs, and jam sessions... Ben Hunter and Joe Seamons have been playing together for 5 years, the last 3 of which sent them to the Port Townsend Acoustic Blues Festival, learning at the feet of the elders of the acoustic blues tradition. Last year, they launched an ongoing documentary film project to explore modern day music along the Mississippi River. Rather than thinking of their music as blues, it is best to situate Ben and Joe as American songsters. A songster traditionally refers to an artist whose repertoire is much broader than the old blues, and spans many of the genres that Ben and Joe inhabit. Whatever you want to call it, Ben Hunter & Joe Seamons make American music. They make music that hews to the rough-and-tumble collisions of musical inspirations from the early 20th century; music that paved the way for everything we enjoy today.
