Meet Sister Lucy Founder of Maher, a living Mother Theresa
Come meet the Mother Theresa of our times and hear Sister Lucys stories: you will be touched and inspired. In these hard times, we need the inspiration Sister Lucy brings. She is creating a veritable cultural transformation. Amongst the many amazing communities and organizations around the world few can compare with the power and integrity of the Maher Communities in the Pune area of Maharashtra, India founded by Sister Lucy Kurien to welcome battered women and their children. Maher means Mothers' Home. There is always room for one more no one is ever turned away. From children to mentally ill women to elders abandoned on the street all are brought to a healing community devoted to love, compassion, deep inter-spirituality, across all ethnicities, faiths, class and casteThere is an unimaginable wholeness in the living community of love and compassion that is Maher (which means mother's home). They are truly living a restorative paradigm in every day life.... There are now over 40 homes, 900 children, 200 women and 50 men plus 500 self help groups with 10,000 members. As an indication of the uniqueness of the Maher model, founder Sister Lucy recently received the 2015 Nari Shakti honor, bestowed directly by the President of India. She was also awarded 2016 Mother Teresa award plus Woman of the Year in Kerala.
