New Light Theater Project presents BREEDERS, by Dan Giles and directed by Jaki Bradley. Winner of the 2017 New Light New Voices winner and 2016 Mark Twain Prize for Comic Playwriting at the Kennedy Center.
Two men, Dean and Mikey, prepared for ages to have a baby. Now, stifled by convention, Dean has doubts that gnaw at him.
Two hamsters, Tyson and Jason, are suddenly pregnant with nine babies. Now, smothered by affection, Tyson has fears that nibble at her.
Nobody was planning to eat anyone. Things just got out of hand.
Breeders is a comedy about the cozy cage of mainstreamed queerness, the surprising variety of things that can fit in ones mouth, and the tender savagery of ordinary devotion.
The cast includes Alton Alburo* as Mikey, Fernando Gonzalez as Jason, Lea McKenna-Garcia* as Tyson, and Jacob Perkins* as Dean.
The production team will include Line Producing by Nick Walsh,
Scenic Design by Brian Dudkiewicz, Costume Design by Lighting Design by Oona Curley, Sound Design by Ben Vigus, Props Design by Devin Lake, Stage Management by Nikki Castle*, Assistant Stage Management by Lindsey Hurley, Technical Direction by ToniAnne DiFilippo, and Press Representation by Karen Greco.
NEW LIGHT THEATER PROJECT New Light Theater Project (NLTP) is an ensemble-driven theater company. We strive to capture the Little Theater Movement (artistry over commerce; producing new and classic works) in the NYC indie theater community.
To accomplish this:
We place our ensemble at the center of the process, where all members, regardless of artistic role, bear weight and voice to the stories we select to tell.
We devise and develop new work, bring classical texts and revivals to life, and create a spirit of community in our theatrical collaborations.
We illuminate other artists and companies through a network of shared resources, such as The Darkroom Series, while cultivating partnerships around the world. For more info, visit NewLightTheaterProject.com.
