Session 6 IN PERSON - Birthworker Inclusivity Training Series
Brainstorming inclusivity: putting it all together - In our final session, well review the topics weve covered, discuss incorporating the concepts into our own practice, and look back at the ways weve grown over the previous year. After a full year of thinking about inclusivity and examining our own practice, its time to put it all together. There will a short review of all of the topics weve discussed, with any applicable updates that may have arisen. We will have grown individually, and as a group. But of course, well all still have more growing to do in the future. Well spend our sixth and final session discussing the things that challenged us the most, and whether or not those things have now clicked for us. Each person will have the opportunity to share ways theyve integrated the things theyve learned into their lives and their professional work. We will brainstorm more ways to be inclusive in the future, and potential topics for further research and discovery. NOTE: Attendance at least one other session is mandatory to register for this session.
B.I.T.S. program overview:
Birthworkers are in a singular position to provide respectful, inclusive care to diverse families. When a new family is celebrated for its uniqueness, rather than encouraged to fit in or hide, they are able to thrive together with dignity. Facilitating families that are free from shame should be high on our list of objectives as birthworkers.
This six part training will provide insight and context for working with families where one or both parents are sexual minorities. For a variety of reasons, these people are unable to be transparent with other healthcare providers. Because we know that the best care, and especially the best outcomes, are achieved through frank, honest communication, it is vital that we strive to include as many members of our community as possible. Empowering, uplifting births are possible for all people, regardless of gender, orientation, relationship status, vocation, or previous life experiences.
You can register to take this training in person and online. In person and online sessions will be held simultaneously. If you have missed some of the sessions, but still want to register for the whole series, you will be given access to the recordings of the earlier sessions.
Regular tickets are $30 per session, or $150 if you register for the entire series (a savings of $30). Student tickets are $15 per session, or $75 if you register for the entire series (a savings of $15).
A total of 18 DONA continuing education contact hours have been applied for - 3 per session.
