DCAVS Lunch & Learn: Mobilizing Those 50+ for Significant Service
Christine Beatty, Director of the Madison Senior Center since 1988, has worked with older adults for 35 years. She has led several national civic engagement initiatives, mobilizing older adult volunteers to address important community needs. Christine will discuss the shift of language and expectations in volunteerism, especially among "boomers," and highlight differences in management techniques and supervisory roles for multiple cohorts of older adults.
Christine served as Chairperson of the National Institute of Senior Centers (2004-2006) and on the National Council on Aging (Washington, DC) Board of Directors (2005-2011). Currently, she serves on an Advisory Council of the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, Volunteer Collaborative, an endeavor which seeks to increase volunteerism in aging services by 1 million persons by 2015.
