Dance Matrix & Company, with support from the Fredericksburg Arts Commission, is presenting A Performing Arts Festival July 1,2,8, and 9 at the CRRL Headquarters Library.

Saturday July 1
11:00-12noon - The Story of Atlantis
Childrens Theater Production by DMC -for children of all ages
See how the story of Atlantis came to be, in the ancient Greek world of Plato. Vibrant dancing, colorful masks, costumes and descriptive narration by actor Mark Wright.

12:00-1:00 Dance Theater Workshop with Beverly Mendez ages 6-12
Learn simple dance steps, improvisation, and communicating to an audience through movement.

2:00-3:00  Acting Workshop
Acting 101 with Chris Rimbach Jones ages 8-12 Learn and put on a play, with multiple parts and lots of fun.

3:00-4:00 Music Workshop
Happiness is Singing Together for ages 8-16 with Jason J Michael. Learn the song Happiness  from Youre A Good Man Charlie Brown with solo parts and harmonies.

7:30-9:00 An Evening of the Arts
A variety of performances by DMC and Guests Artists. Featuring; Dance performance by Free Range Dance, One Act play by Stage Door Productions, student choreography by Gianna Pavey and Gabby Goodson, Video art piece by Maddie Counsell, Sculptural set design by Rachel Sargeant, and choreography by Beverly Mendez, Cherish Horton Dobbins, Anissa Wells and Shona DiPaula.

Sunday July 2
1:30-2:30  The Story of Atlantis
Childrens Theater Production by DMC -for children of all ages

2:30-3:30Theater Workshop
Stage Combat with Mark Wright ages 10-16 Swashbuckling fun. Stage combat is a specialized technique in theatre designed to create the illusion of physical combat without causing harm to the performers.

3:30-4:30Dance Workshop
Me and My Buddy Dance Class with Cherish Horton Dobbins
for kids ages 2-5 to dance with their parent or teen sibling partner

7:30-9:00An Evening of the Arts
A variety of performances by DMC and Guests Artists. Featuring; Performance Art with Ixchel Mendez, Creative Movement Studio dancers, original music piece by local artists George Ritchie and the Fall Line Bluegrass Band, choreography by Kori Terrell Joseph, Cherish Horton Dobbins, Beverly Mendez and the J.M. Drama Club Review.

Saturday July 8 - A FULL DAY OF WORKSHOP FUN!

10:00-11:00Dance Workshop
Morning Ballet Class with Beverly Mendez ages 14 to Adult
No experience necessary to enjoy the beautiful art of Ballet.

11:00-12:00Theater Workshop
Improvisation with Marcus Salley ages 12-18
Improv is the form of theatre, in which most or all of what is performed is unplanned or unscripted. Mr Salley creates a safe, inviting environment for trying new things and taking a few risks, and teaches students how to use improv to craft characters and explore themes within plays.

1:00-2:00Theater Workshop
Theater Concepts with Jason J Michael ages 8-16
Basic theater concepts and games

2:00-3:00Musical Theater Workshop
Dancing for the Stage with Mary Anne Furey ages 8-16
An Open level dance class using a variety of dance styles used in musical theatre, including jazz, ballet, tap, ballroom, street dance, and folk dance forms.

3:00-4:00Dance Workshop
Contemporary Jazz Class with Ixchel Mendez ages 10 to Adult
This unique style explores a wide range of organic, often angular movements and syncopated rhythms with a strong base in classical technique.This class encourages dancers to explore freedom of movement and self- expression.

7:30-9:00An Evening of the Arts
A variety of performances by DMC and Guests Artists. Featuring; Movement and Spoken Word by Alex Harvell, Performance Art with Ixchel Mendez,  MFA Studio dancers, Choreographer Janell Behm from Inspire Dance, Choreography by Shona DiPaula, Anissa Wells , Beverly Mendez and musical guest Gypsy Blue with special guest Keith Mellinger.

2:30-3:30Art Workshop
Figure Drawing Workshop with artist Caroline Clark ages 10 to Adult
Figure drawing is a drawing of the human form in any of its various shapes and postures. Ms Clark will choose various members of the class to pose while the rest of the class sketches. Several volunteers will pose during the course of the hour.

3:30-4:30Dance Workshop
Modern Dance class with Kori Terrell Joseph ages 10 to Adult
This open level class welcomes a wide spectrum of movers who want to explore fundamental physical connections and expressive movement.
Art Performance Workshop
Watch Caroline Clark as she performs her watercolor sketching technique of participants in the above workshop. Drawings will be auctioned after the workshop.

7:30-9:00 An Evening of the Arts
A variety of performances by DMC and Guests Artists. Featuring; Dance Artist Dev Seldon, Movement and Spoken Word by Alex Harvell, Video Art Piece by Maddie Counsell, Free Range Dance, FBC Studio dancers, DMC choreography by Beverly Mendez, Kori Terrell Joseph and The JM Players performing a scene from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.
