Canzona Women's Ensemble "Songs From Distant Lands" concert
We sing music from distant lands, with rich and alluring melodies: mysterious, deeply moving and colorful; each song unique to the lives and dreams of the composers and the poets.
Songs from Distant Lands is inspired by exotic locales including India, the Middle East, the Balkans, the Baltic and Tibet. The rich poetry and culture of these faraway places come alive in settings by a variety of international composers. From Behind the Caravan: Songs of Hafez is the centerpiece of the program and features cell and Persian style percussion. Minnesota composer Abbie Betinis evokes the mythical sense of the 14th century poetry with her arresting setting of these four lyric Persian poems by Hafez.
Tickets are prices at $25 in advance - $30 at the door and $10 for students with I.D.
